The Superior General Visits the Theatine Mission in the Sierra Tarahumara
As part of his Canonical Visitation to the Theatine Province of Mexico “Our Lady of Guadalupe and Saint Cajetan”, the Rev. Fr. Salvador Rodea González, C.R., Superior General of the Order of Clerics Regular Theatines, recently visited the community of Baborigame, in the Sierra Tarahumara, where the Theatines maintain a missionary and pastoral presence in the service of the local Church.
The community of Baborigame is located in one of the most remote regions of the Sierra Tarahumara. Reaching it involves a long journey: from the city of Chihuahua to Guachochi by road and, subsequently, a flight of approximately twenty minutes in a small aircraft to Baborigame. By road, the journey from Guachochi can take several hours due to the condition of the roads, many of which are unpaved.
The parish is dedicated to Our Lady of Guadalupe and currently has the presence of Fr. Octavio García, C.R., as parish priest, and Deacon Juan Manuel, who belongs to the Theatine Province of the United States. Both accompany the life of the community and carry out the pastoral mission of the Order there.
During his visit, Fr. Salvador was accompanied by Bishop Juan Manuel González Sandoval, Bishop of Tarahumara, Fr. Eduardo Bello, C.R., Superior Provincial of the Theatines in Mexico, as well as by Theatine priests and religious. The encounter made it possible to gain a closer understanding of the reality of this mission and to share in the life of those who, in this region of the Sierra Tarahumara, proclaim the Gospel and accompany the local communities.
The Theatine presence in Baborigame expresses an essential dimension of the charism of the Order: to be where the Church needs presence, service and accompaniment, especially in communities living in contexts of great distances and difficult access.
The Canonical Visitation of the Superior General is also an opportunity to strengthen the bonds of fraternity, to listen to those who carry out the mission, and to renew the commitment of the Theatines to evangelization and service to the Church in Mexico.
From the Sierra Tarahumara, the mission continues to be an invitation to walk alongside the communities, making presence, closeness and service a concrete expression of the Gospel.
