The Theatine Order is pleased to announce an artistic event of notable spiritual and cultural significance: the renowned painter Rodolfo Papa, who oversees the pictorial cycle of the Theatine General Curia, has completed and formally presented his portrait of His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, during a recent official meeting at the Vatican.

Conceived as a preparatory painting for a mosaic, the work displays remarkable technical and iconographic excellence. It has served as the model for the traditional tondo musivo destined for the Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls, where it will join the historic series of papal portraits.

Master Papa’s work is not merely figurative, but a genuine act of theological contemplation. Painted in the same dimensions as the final mosaic, it ensures absolute fidelity in the transfer to mosaic, preserving both the chromatic richness and expressive depth of the Holy Father’s likeness.

The meeting with Pope Leo XIV, during which the work was officially presented, took place in a spirit of profound respect. The Pope expressed his appreciation for the artistic excellence and spiritual meaning of the portrait.

The Theatine Order renews its gratitude to Master Rodolfo Papa for a work that enriches not only the artistic heritage of the General Curia, but also the spiritual life of the Church, reflecting the living dialogue between sacred art, faith, and Theatine tradition.
