Dear Brothers:

I wish you well and that this New Year the Lord continues to bless and accompany all your labors for the building of the Kingdom of God.

I am writing to inform you that early this morning our dear Fr. Jordi Cassà Vallés, C.R. has departed to the Father’s House.
Let us unite in prayer for his Eternal Easter and for the consolation and strength in the Risen Christ for our Community, his family and friends.
When everything has been organized, we will give you more information about the funeral and burial.

Jordi’s funeral will begin this afternoon in the church of our Casa de Sant Gaietá – Barcelona. The funeral Mass will be tomorrow at 3 pm in the same church and the burial will be at 4 pm.

A brief biographical sketch of the life of Fr. Jordi Cassà Vallés, C.R.
Fr. Jorge Cassá Vallés was born in Barcelona on September 23, 1929. He entered our house of Son Espanyolet, as an aspirant on October 3, 1943, beginning the Novitiate on September 14, 1945. He made his first profession on September 15, 1946 and his solemn profession on September 15, 1952. On May 30, 1953 he received the Sacred Order of the Presbyterate.
Once he finished his philosophy studies in Son Espanyolet he was assigned to Rome for theological studies. Upon his return in 1953 he was assigned as prefect of aspirants to Iranzu and in 1954 to Felanitx.
In November 1957 he was assigned to San Cayetano de La Plata (Argentina), where he studied Sociology at the Catholic University of Argentina, obtaining the degree of Doctor of Political Science. In Argentina he developed a large part of his priestly ministry, being appointed director of the college of La Plata in 1975.
In December 1987 he returned to Spain and was again incardinated in the Province, being assigned first to Barcelona and then to the Colegio San Alfonso de Palma. In January 1990 he returned to Barcelona where he will reside until his death, except for the three years 2007-2010 when he was assigned to Felanitx. In Barcelona he obtained his Doctorate in Sociology for his thesis on Fr. Gallifa, C.R.
Until the last days of his life he has been working on various studies on Fr. Antonio Sagrera, C.R. and in recent times, on the history of the Foundation of Argentina.
He passed away in Barcelona in the early morning of January 9, 2023.
