S. Andrew Avellino, first biographer of Blessed Paul Burali
Reformation of worship and devotion to the Eucharist.
Arrived that he was in Piacenza, he found that the tabernacle was held in little honor and no reverence was paid to the Most Holy. He wished to set a school by example and to teach the People the worship of the Eucharist, he rose early in the morning and with his eyes downcast he would kneel several hours before the Most Holy.
The fruits were not lacking. The People no less than the nobles, seeing the Bishop kneeling, all learned to kneel and made reverence to the Blessed Sacrament. So much had the buen Prelate been able to do without uttering a word.
He also saw that very few canons went to the choir to recite Matins. He said nothing. He began by going there personally every morning. Thus by his example, without imposing anything, he induced all the canons to the matins. They were used to coming in very late. But with him they learned to be very punctual. And so by his example he reformed divine worship without fuss of words.

Thought of Blessed Paul Burali:
“Sweet is death for the one who through consecration to God tends toward heaven. He is crucified to the world, and the world is crucified for him, because despising human riches he seeks the realities of heaven, and neglecting the voluptuousness of the body, he imitates the life of angels through chastity.” .
